For the past 12 years, Saratoga Reads! has focused its yearly activity on a single book, chosen by the community, through an initial nomination process and final election - that is rich enough to inspire invigorating dialogue and extensive programming. The book selection process is a widely publicized invitation to the greater Saratoga public to suggest a thought provoking and engaging book. A selection advisory committee then carefully reviews the nominated texts to present a ballot to the community for a public vote each spring.
Once the year's winning book is announced a wealth of community activity begins in celebration of the book and its broader themes. Activities targeting readers of all ages and levels have been planned by Saratoga Reads!
But now, we are excited to announce that community reading has a new home! After this year celebrating the Boys in the Boat, by Daniel James Brown, The Saratoga Springs Public Library will be the home base of a community reading program. We don't know exactly what that will look like yet, but we look forward to supporting this new project.
We are so grateful to the Selection Advisory Group for steadfastly reading and reviewing the books our community has nominated. Some books were read by a handful of readers, others by dozens. We estimate that over these twelve years that close to 900 books have been reviewed. That's a lot of pages! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
