A Hero for Daisy is an inspiring film about the courage and determination of two-time Olympic rower Chris Ernst. In 1976 Chris galvanized her Yale rowing team to protest Yale’s inadequate and second-class facilities for female athletes. Nineteen athletes stormed the athletic directors office and stripped, exposing the phrase “Title IX” in blue marker on their backs. The story, picked up by The New York Times, created immediate awareness of Title IX across the country.

The Saratoga Reads Capstone event on April 12th will feature fellow Olympian Ginny Gilder who was a freshman rower at Yale and participant in this famous 1976 protest. Gilder then went on to write her book Course Correction: A Story of Rowing and Resilience in the Wake of Title IX which nicely compliments our community reads book The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.

Special guests participating who can offer their rowing insights will include Eric Catalano, Saratoga Rowing Association Executive Director and Kristi Wagner, Yale alumna who raced on the US under23 world championships team and has done a lot with film and sport and knows this movie well.

Light refreshments will be served.
