Poetry Café attendees will have the opportunity to do close readings of poems, as well as discuss and enjoy their sound and sense with others. This season’s poems will center on the experiences of refugees and migrants.
February’s poetry close-reading club will be looking at “Islanders,” by Teow Lim Goh. Angel Island was the West coast counterpart to Ellis Island at the turn of the last century. Lim Goh re-imagines the poems that detained Chinese women immigrants may have written on their barrack walls.
Copies of “Islanders” can be found in the discussion group section.
